Hello wider world and welcome to Emberlight Gaming!
My name is Noah and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and the Emberlight Guild/Gaming.
So… Hello! I’m Noah and I am (currently) 30 years old. I have always had this thing where I get obsessed with learning something new and creating things. Some things (like making miniature terrain features for my D&D game) fall away with time and others (like gardening or fishing) stick to me like glue and become lifelong passions.
Recently (that is to say, about 6 months ago) such a new hobby has emerged – programming. I started diving into learning how to code in Java and when I say i’m hooked, I mean I AM HOOKED. For me, programming scratches that itch of problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity that is super satisfying and, while I have taken a week off here and there, I have returned to it every time and have gotten the same level of satisfaction. All that to say: I have found a new lifelong passion.
Currently, I am by no means a proficient programmer. I don’t even have the basics of Java completely down yet (but I am learning more and more every day). My goal right now to to spend the rest of this year honing my Java coding skills, make a few SUPER basic games that put my skills to the test, and focus on my ability to independently create programs with minimal use of tutorials. I will almost certainly touch on my progress along that journey in future posts but, for now, that is where I am at.
So then, what is (the) Emberlight Gaming/Guild?
I want to make games. That is what I find so interesting with coding and that is the direction I want to head towards as I build my skills. My (as of now) one-man indie studio needed a name, and I previously used the name Emberlight Guild on Twitch and YouTube for a now-defunct gaming channel. However, I liked the name so much that I want to use it here. So here we have it: Emberlight Gaming. Additionally, anyone who tags along and joins our community is effectively joining our Guild – whether that’s playing any future games we make, interacting and supporting our fellow Guild members, or just more generally following along as we share our journey. If you are reading this, welcome to the Guild.
I have no delusions that I will be making the next A, AA, or AAA smash hit. Instead, I just want to focus on making games that are fun to play. To get there, I need to first focus on refining my programming abilities. That means continuing to learn and practice my coding skills (right now, I have been using Coddy to learn Java coding as well as self-guided practice and learning by experimenting with my own mini-programs).
This next week (8/24/2026 – 8/30/2026), I am going to focus on finishing Coddy’s “Methods (Functions) chapter and then use the practice feature to cement what I have learned. If there is time, I may also plan out the development for my first official “game” – a simple click-based rock-paper-scissor game (with a twist). Anyways, in the words of Forrest Gump – ” and that’s all I have to say about that.”
I wish you well, kindest regards – Noah H.
